I finally bit the bullet and decided to sell the CT. It was hard decision but it was made easier by the fact that the new home away from home will be easier for us to use at a moments notice and that means we can get away more often.
I bought the cub exactly 6 years ago in Brisvegas after the family CT was sold in the aftermath of the first 40 years of my life. The kids and I vowed and declared we would use it together, love it together and agree to sell it together. If the time ever came. Well, the time has come. So the Cub got listed on Gumtree last Wednesday and sold, unseen (!!) at my asking price on Monday after a few other inquiries and one demo to a potential buyer (not the ultimate buyer). This is how the ad read …
Cub Spacematic (transcontinental pack) camper trailer (CT) 2002
My home away from home is regrettably up for sale. It is fully registered in WA, due 31.10.2016.
Camper is a hard floor, boat winch wind up / wind down with rear stabilising legs. I have a DVD of the setup and paper instructions on set up and setting the canvas for tension (an infrequent process).
For a live guided tour please contact me. In the meantime here’s a verbal (not virtual) tour.
Inside
Kitchen – collapses when packed, raises on springs to normal bench height. Sink with 12 volt pump, two burner gas top with grill. 12 volt Waeco basket fridge (operating instructions available). Access to fridge available when trailer is packed up. Cutlery drawer and under sink storage. Additional storage when the kitchen is in position. Full window (no tears or rips in fly mesh or clear window).
Dining room – seats two with option for a third in the passage between the dining and kitchen. Additional storage available under each dining chair under (at all times) and under the table when in transit. Full window (no tears or rips in fly mesh or clear window).
Master bedroom – double bed, east west facing. Full window (no tears or rips in fly mesh or clear window). Bed lifts on gas struts with under bed storage.
Single bedroom – dinette converts to single bed.
Family room / additional bedroom / also known as hard floor – this space is free to use as you see fit. I have slept four children here (2 of my own + a friend each). Other times we’ve used this space on rainy days as a large lounge room that comfortably fits our camping chairs and table. Put the pantry and table here for longer stays.
Other – linoleum floor intact; 12 volt outlets with volt meter; 240 double power point in kitchen; no tears or rips to canvas.
Outside
Storage – lock box on draw bar with x2 batteries – fully charged batteries will power all 12v appliances, including the ‘fridge for 4 full days (longer in cooler weather). Anderson plug to tow vehicle. Gas bottle x1. Spare tyre x1.
Verandah – zip on awning with forward side. Poles, pegs and ropes included. External 240 power in (roadside) and out (kerbside). End windows roll up for ventilation or can be pegged out for additional over-window awnings.
Water – new 80L water tank. Only ever had drinking grade water in the tank.
Other – If you are looking for a pristine home away from home this CT is not for you. The entry door zipper is temperamental. I intend to get this fixed and the price will go up to reflect this. However if you buy it before then I can show you the secret to easy zippering (or you can get it fixed). The spare tyre weld needs repair. Again, I intend to get this fixed and the price will go up to reflect this. However if you buy it before … you know the drill. The CT has always been garaged while I have owned it.
Finally – This really is a regrettable sale. I have owned and loved this CT for the last six years. I have traveled many places with it and managed it on my own, with some help from my growing children. In fact it is because of them I am selling it. Ms 19 doesn’t like camping anymore and Mr 13 has moved out of home and now has his own place (a tent) when we go camping. It’s just too big for mum all by herself. If you want to see more information about the trailer and its travels, and proof that it is extremely easy for one female adult to tow and set up alone, have a look at my web page www.thesoloavocado.com. If you want to see a live demonstration (and you are a genuine buyer) I am happy to set the CT up for you. I have a DVD of the setup and paper instructions on set up and setting the canvas for tension (an infrequent process).
My price is firm. Please don’t try to haggle or negotiate with me. I am very aware of the value of these campers. If you need more details fell free to call or sms.
Anyway, I unpacked it last evening and said a very fond farewell to it as I packed it back up. A chapter of my life has closed, a period of time where I proved to myself that I can have anything I set my mind to and go anywhere I want to go. It was also the period of my life where I had my last opportunity to spend lots of quality time with the kids before they go their own ways. And we did that and lots more. But when one door closes another door opens and the one that is opening is exciting and filled with many kilometers of opportunity. I can’t wait to see what the next 5 years brings. Now to see if I can find a buyer for the ‘cruiser ..
