From the bus to the bridge in 5 hours, crossing out of the EU and into BIH.

Our accommodation here in Mostar is truly amazing. Stuck in a time warp with laminate kitchen doors, in what was a Mahalla, with an unbeatable view of Stari Most. I can’t believe we get to experience this!

As soon as we could, we settled into the balcony and admiring the view.
The bridge diving antics here simply beggar belief. Without realising it, I watched a random dude undergo jumping assessment on the platforms behind our house, before racing up onto the bridge and throwing himself over the edge! All captured on video!

Then not long after, his coach performed a skilful jump of his own.

There was really very little reason to leave the balcony, but eventually we headed out for a fabulous meal, crossing the bridge and finding the other crooked bridge on the way.

The bridge is just as lovely in the morning as it is in the afternoon, with the added bonus of almost no people on it!

But there is more to Mostar than the bridge, and some of it is an ugly but purposeful reminder of the horrors of war.

Not everything can or should be plastered over.
The rebuild of the city includes a new bell tower, the highest structure in the city, dedicated to peace.

The view from almost the top, literally took my breath away.

Back home there was just enough time for some more bridge watching and beers, before the rain set in and we beat a hasty retreat from thunder and lightning, unlike many crazy tourists determined to cross the Stari Most.

Mostar, you are simply unbeatable, in everyway. May you stay safe and peaceful forever more.

Post script: The rain finally stopped pouring down and we wandered out for a look at a dark and wet Mostar.
